Pastor Verna Brookins
Pastor Verna Brookins is a retired Public Relations Director, Polaroid Corporation, where she was employed 29 years. Her education includes a BA Degree from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia; graduate studies at Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio; Management Training Program at Simmons College, Boston, Massachusetts; and training in The Institute of Servant Leadership at Emory University in Atlanta.
Over the past 30 years she served on many Boards of Directors, in both the private and public sectors. These included a bank, a local hospital in Peabody, United Way of Massachusetts, Gordon College, Big Sisters Association and other community agencies.
In her Christian endeavors, Pastor Brookins has a long history as a teacher, revivalist and conference speaker. Her prior church affiliations include serving as a District Evangelist for Massachusetts Jurisdiction in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) for 10 years after receiving her license as an Evangelist. During that time she conducted workshops on various Christian topics and ran Annual Revivals in Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, she conducted revivals in Connecticut, Florida and Georgia.
Pastor Brookins was subsequently a member of New Covenant/Jubilee Christian Center of Boston for over 16 years. Upon joining, she was ordained a deacon and conducted classes in Beginner’s Catechism and Foundations for over 6 years. In addition, she participated in Ministerial Counseling sessions in both the Boston and Stoughton churches.
From 2005-2008 she was a Pastor at Jubilee Christian Church where she was a teacher in the Jubilee Metro, a department focusing on educating worshippers in God’s Word. Pastor Brookins describes her passion as “teaching the word of God and seeing lives changed as a result”.
During the past three years she was keynote speaker at Imani Temple COGIC Annual Women’s Conference in Malden, Massachusetts and conducted a women’s workshop there; she was keynote speaker at a Women’s Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida as well as Holy Tabernacle Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Along with her husband, she recently served on the panel for a Married Couples Fellowship.
Currently she serves as Senior Associate Pastor at New Dimension Church in Providence, Rhode Island. She is responsible for the Prophetic Team Ministry and also serves in the Discipleship Ministry where she conducts classes.
She is the mother of two married daughters and has five grandchildren. Both daughters and their husbands are members of New Dimension Church. She lives in Peabody with her husband of 48 years, Jackson Brookins.
Pastor Brookins lists among her career highlights participation in a World Conference in London, England in 1999 and taking a trip to the Holy Land where she was able to personally trace some of the steps of Christ during His stay on earth. She states emphatically that this experience will live within her forever.
She joined Pastors Troy and Theresa Goode at New Dimension Church at it’s very inception. She states that she was responding because “ I heard and recognized a call from God telling me that this was the place for me”.
